CHARACTERIZING LASER-DRIVEN NEUTRON GENERATION

The cutting edge research on particle generation at CLPU uses a LASER-DRIVEN setup to produce protons and neutrons.
An impressive 1 petaWatt LASER, coupled with innovative targets designed by Politecnico di Milano, are used for characterizing specific particles generation.
In the framework of the experimental campaign “High-energy laser-driven hadron sources based on optimized nanostructured targets”, an extensive characterization of the generated neutron field was performed together with CIEMAT, UNIVERSIDAD POLITÉCNICA DE MADRID and the radiation protection unit of CLPU. DIAMON and STARLITE devices worked during the neutron production to determine the main dosimetric quantities of interest of this innovative field.
